Chilton Auto Body requested a series of brochures for each manufacturer of car they serviced (Honda, Mazda, Toyota, BMW to name a few). They were to all be essentially the same brochure but customized enough for each brand so that the brochures could be shipped to local dealerships and catered to each of their customers. They also requested a vague “automotive” look and feel.
To keep the costs of design / printing manageable only the front of each brochure altered to show whatever current model of car was typical for that manufacturer. To further accentuate the difference in each brochure the license plate of each car changed dependent on the location of the dealership. This was a simple way for them to double checkĀ that the right brochure was going to the right dealership since there were going to be so many slightly varied brochures floating around.
The “automotive” look and feel was achieved by using a muted palette of grays / silvers and black to mimic chrome and metal of a automotive shop and cars in general. Secondly, heavy use of sharp, rigid, lines were employed to induce a feeling of mechanical and technological overtones. However, in order to not be too cold a few curved lines were introduced to give a sense of some softness.
Today, Chilton Auto Body is the industry leader in quality collision repair in the Bay Area.
